Senior Portrait - Kiara Colon Orona | Emily McGonigle Photography
Hey everyone! I hope you were able to take advantage of the extra hour of sleep we all got this morning! I’m also glad it FINALLY stopped raining. It was getting depressing there for a minute, haha.
Anyway, today I bring to you a recent session I did with the lovely Kiara Colon Orona of Stewart’s Creek High School!
I LOVED working with Kiara. She is such a strong, beautiful, young woman, and being on set with her was an absolute blast.
Kiara participates in Crossfit and we wanted to make sure to incorporate that into her session, so we actually did the entire thing on location in the gym!
THE SECOND Kiara got in front of the camera she turned it on. She blew my mind within the first couple of frames, and from that moment on I knew the rest of the shoot was going to be FIRE.
Not only did we want to work with Kiara’s love of Crossfit within her session, but we also wanted to demonstrate her elegance and her ability to still radiate strength while doing so. So, for two of her looks we married those two ideas together and introduced Crossfit items from the gym (boxes, shoes, weights, balls, etc.) into the frame, while she was dressed in non-Crossfit outfits.
Kiara’s ability to exude both sophistication and power absolutely killed me. My favorite images often result from sessions where I am able to really connect to the person I’m photographing and they allow me to work with them to really bring out who they are in their images.
I don’t like my photographs to just be about “what you do” or “what you look like”, I like them to tell the viewer who you are, and I think we really did that with Kiara’s session.
This is the reason that I always have a pre-shoot consultation with my portrait clients. It allows me to get to know them, and for them to get to know me. Once we’ve had a chance to chat and find out a little about each other, and I get ideas rolling about what they’re looking for, what they’re into, and who they are. From there we start the planning phase for their session and we start making plans for an awesome shoot! I love the process as much as my clients do, especially when the results are like this!
